In this 13 Days tour, you may witness many birds which are endemic and non-endemic both as Sri Lanka is a remarkable country for birds. Although small, it has a wide range of climate and habitat and over 435 species of birds. And also you may cover other highlights include a tour in amazing Sigiriya, spiritual Kandy, trekking through the tea plantations, experience the natural habitat of elephants, exploring the rainforests and more. Day 01: Airport — Negombo (– / – / Dinner)

  • Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport and you will be warmly welcomed by our Explore Vacations representative.
  • You will be transferred to a hotel in Negombo.
  • Relax, Refresh and have your dinner. Have a good night sleep & get ready for an experience of your life the next day.

Day 02: Negombo — Anawilanduwa(through Chilaw) — Chilaw (Breakfast / – / Dinner)

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • After breakfast, you’ll proceed to visit Anawilanduwa (1hr drive through Chilaw). Anawilanduwa is a bird sanctuary located approximately 10Km away from Chilaw on the Colombo Puttalam road (120Km from Colombo) and Nawadankulama is a lake complex about 10-15Kms away from the turnoff to Anawilundawa. Anawilanduwa is a Ramsar wetland where there are many migrant birds in the migration season.
  • Thereafter return to Chilaw and check in to a hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 03: Chilaw — Sigiriya — Pidurangala — Sigiriya (Breakfast / – / Dinner)

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • After breakfast at the hotel transfer to Sigiriya (3-4hrs drive).
  • Enjoy the bird watching around Sigiriya Rock Fortress and Pidurangala Monastery.
  • Later on, check in to a hotel in Sigiriya for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 04: Sigiriya — Minneriya — Sigiriya (Breakfast / – / Dinner)

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Proceed to climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress.
  • Return to the hotel for rest and relaxation.
  • Late afternoon proceeds to visit Minneriya / Kaudulla National Park in a separate jeep.
  • Back to hotel for dinner & overnight stay.

Day 05: Sigiriya — Matale — Kandy (Breakfast / – / Dinner)

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • After breakfast at the hotel transfer to Kandy (3-4hrs drive).
  • En-route visit a Spice Garden – an ideal place for bird watching.
  • Transfer directly to Kandy.
  • Enjoy the city tour by visiting Temple of Tooth Relic, Gem museum and lapidary and fruit and vegetable markets etc.
  • Check into the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 06: Kandy (Breakfast / – / Dinner)

  • Early breakfast at the hotel.
  • Around 6.00 am proceed to visit Udawatte Rain Forest – The sanctuary is famous for its extensive fauna. The reserve also contains a great variety of plant species, especially lianas, shrubs and small trees. There are several giant lianas. Many small and medium-sized mammals that inhabit Sri Lanka can be seen here.
  • Evening visits the Royal Botanical garden in Peradeniya.
  • Back to hotel in Kandy for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 07: Kandy — Nuwara Eliya (Breakfast / – /Dinner)

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Transfer to Nuwara Eliya (2hrs drive).
  • En-route visit a tea plantation and tea factory; also view the enchanting beauty of Ramboda Water Fall.
  • In Nuwara Eliya, visit the Fruit and vegetable markets and Old English Buildings which were built during the British Colonial Era.
  • Evening free time on leisure.
  • Dinner and overnight stay in Nuwara Eliya.

Day 08: Nuwara Eliya (Breakfast / – / Dinner)

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Proceed to visit Horton Plains – This is a protected area in the central highlands of Sri Lanka and is covered by montane grassland and cloud forest. This plateau is rich in biodiversity and many species found here are endemic to the region.
  • Later on, transfer to visit Victoria Park – Originally the park was the research field of Hakgala Botanical Garden; the park was thereafter established by planting an Oak tree by a German Prince who was visiting Nuwara Eliya.
  • Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 09: Nuwara Eliya – Tissamaharama (Breakfast / – / Dinner)

  • Breakfast at the hotel
  • Transfer to Tissamaharama (5-6hrs drive).
  • Late afternoon, enjoy an exciting Jeep safari in Yala – This is the most visited and second largest national park in Sri Lanka.
  • Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 10: Tissamaharama (Breakfast / – / Dinner)

  • Enjoy breakfast at the hotel.
  • Proceed for a morning safari in Bundala National Park – This is an internationally important wintering ground for migratory waterbirds in Sri Lanka. Bundala harbours 197 species of birds, the highlight being the greater flamingo, which migrate in large flocks.
  • Late evening enjoy bird watching around Tissa Lake.
  • Return to the hotel for Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 11: Tissamaharama – Uda Walawe – Sinharaja (Breakfast / – / Dinner)

  • Enjoy breakfast at the hotel.
  • Transfer to Sinharaja (3-4hrs drive) via Uda Walawe. At 12.00pm witness feeding at the Baby elephant orphanage. Enjoy an exciting Jeep safari at Uda Walawe National Park – The national park was created to provide a sanctuary for wild animals displaced by the construction of the Udawalawe Reservoir on the Walawe River as well as to protect the catchment of the reservoir.
  • Later on, transfer to a hotel in Sinharaja for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 12: Sinharaja – Colombo (Breakfast / – / Dinner)

  • Enjoy breakfast at the hotel.
  • Proceed for a nature trail along with bird watching in Sinharaja Rain Forest – This is a national park and a biodiversity hotspot in Sri Lanka.  It is of international significance and has been designated a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
  • Later on transfer to Colombo.
  • Check in to a hotel in Colombo for Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 13: Colombo – Departure (Breakfast / – /-)

  • Enjoy breakfast at the hotel then proceed to Colombo.
  • Explore Colombo city including visits to Hindu & Buddhist Temples, Catholic Churches, Muslim Mosques, Independence Square, Shopping Malls, etc.
  • Afternoon you will be transferred to Bandaranaike International Airport for the departure flight.
